Protect your skin this summer with the three-step solar routine

SPF is a popular topic in the beauty industry at the moment, and at Biologique Recherche we agree that it is imperative to change your routine in the summer to protect your skin.

The intensity of solar radiation varies depending on geographic location, altitude, time of year, time of day and weather conditions. Nevertheless, UVA and UVB rays are absorbed and penetrated by the skin, and our bodies have developed multiple natural protective strategies in response to this. However, we are not able to fully protect ourselves from sun damage, and so we need an external sun protection system is needed to limit damage to the skin.

Sunburn is mainly caused by UVB rays, and in the long-term, UVA rays cause premature ageing, characterised by wrinkles, loss of elasticity in skin tissue and dehydration because the degradation of collagen and elastin is accelerated, and when combined with the dehydration of the epidermis caused by the sun, the skin becomes lined and wrinkles are accentuated. Infrared rays aggravate any damage caused by UV rays as they stress the skin.

The pigmentation process

Melanin is a pigment responsible for skin colour. Its role is to protect the skin against the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. The body produces melanin to defend itself against harmful UV rays, enabling the skin to absorb a portion of them. When the pigmentation process is disrupted, the complexion is no longer uniform and brown spots appear.

The three-step programme

To help fight the harmful effects of solar radiation, we offer a three-step programme of sun treatments for all Skin Instants©.

Step one: Préparation U.V.

A must before exposure, Préparation U.V. contains active ingredients to promote melanin synthesis without sun exposure, thereby stimulating the skin to tan naturally. It also contains antioxidants to fight free radicals, preventing the appearance of pigmentation spots and slowing skin ageing. Start using this four weeks before intense sun exposure to prepare the skin.

Step two: Protection U.V. (SPF 25)

The Protection U.V. protects the epidermis by targeting 100% of sun’s rays that directly impact skin ageing. Thanks to the synergy between 100% natural mineral filters and innovative plant-based active ingredients, Protection U.V. helps protect the epidermis against the harmful effects of UVA, UVB and infrared rays. In addition, the formula is water resistant, rich in anti-ageing, soothing, anti-dark-spot and moisturizing active ingredients, which help prevent ageing and dehydration in the skin.

Step three: Réparation U.V.

After being exposed to the sun, skin needs repair – it is left vulnerable and dehydrated, as UV rays are often accompanied by sea water, chlorine, wind, salt and sand, all of which dry out the epidermis. In addition to the harmful effects on the skin, UVA exposure can damage collagen and elastin fibres, resulting in wrinkles (or deepening existing ones). Réparation U.V. prevents post-UV skin reactivity and delivers an immediate soothing effect by hydrating the skin.

We hope that alongside shopping for swimwear and travelling to warmer climes this summer, you take the opportunity to prepare and protect your skin – after all, it is our most precious possesion.
