Finding the correct moisturiser for your skin, can be such a frustrating and confusing task; and then once you think you’ve found it, something happens, and suddenly it’s not working the way it was for you anymore! We have all gone through these annoying times, and continue to do so. Here is a quick guide to help you understand you skin and what it needs, helping you find the right moisturiser according to your Skin Instant® and your skin reaction to external factors (such as environmental aggressors).

    • Skin toxicity
    • Skin oxygenation
    • Skin sensitivity

  1. What to look for

The first ingredients on any ingredients list are going to be those with the highest concentrations, so you will be looking for some high-quality ingredients such some of the ones mentioned below.

  1. What they do

Different moisturising ingredients work in different ways. Here are the principle ways in which they work:

Humectants are like water magnets. They pull water molecules from the dermis towards the epidermis, and if humidity is above 70 percent, they can even draw in moisture from the environment. They are extremely important in keeping skin soft and supple. They also encourage desquamation, the shedding process, by wearing down the corneodesmosome that hold skin cells together. Humectants repair dry, cracked skin by providing maximum hydration. They also act as a barrier by preventing outside chemicals from making contact with the dermis. Examples of these are: Hyaluronic Acid (or Sodium Hyaluronate), Lactic Acid, Glycerin (or Glycerol), Propylene/Butylene/Pentylene Glycol, Urea, Sorbitol, Aloe Vera, Amino Acids such as Silk Extract, Hydrolysed Proteins/Collagen/Elastin, Algae, Phospholipids and Dicyanamide.

Ideal for all Skin Instants® including those affected by sensitivity.

Emulsion Gel BiosensibleEmulsion Gel Biosensible

Mainly targeted to reduce red blemishes and calms the skin, this emulsion also works wonder against dehydration. The hyaluronic acid plays here an essential role in regulating the skin’s moisture levels, given its exceptional capacity for water retention. In addition to helping restore and strengthen the deficient hydrolipidic film, the other ingredients of this moisturiser help restructure the skin’s micro-relief and fortify the skin’s natural barrier function against daily aggressions.

Occlusives are like a waterproof sheet on your skin, preventing water loss. They work by forming a hydrophobic layer on the surface of the skin providing an exogenous barrier to reduce water evaporation from the skin. Moisturisers with occlusive agents are the most common type and the most effective, as they reduce trans epidermal water loss by up to 98%. They don’t increase the moisture levels of the epidermis but can help prevent water reserves from being drained by external aggressors. Occlusives are well tolerated among individuals and are often used in the treatment of atopic dermatitis. They are also able to reduce the appearance of fine lines caused by dehydration. Examples of these are: Salmon DNA, Petrolatum, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Beeswax, Raspberry Seed Oil, Lanolin and Mink Oil.

Ideal for highly dehydrated, lipid-deficient and/or mature Skin Instants®. Perfect for the change of seasons.

Creme Dermo-RLCrème Dermo-RL

A nourishing cream that repairs and reconditions skins that have been exposed to harsh climates. Enriched with lipid-replenishing Shea Butter, NMF (Natural Moisturising Factor), moisturising Hyaluronic Acid as well as protective and repairing agents, its formula replenishes the skin with lipids and moisture to recondition the epidermis. By restoring the skin’s original structure, its appearance is improved.

In the cosmetics industry, a moisturiser is a topical product that is designed to maintain optimal levels of oils and water in the skin. It can not only be a cream but also a lotion, a serum, or an oil. So here is our Serum T.E.W.L. designed to reduce Trans Epidermal Water Loss.

Sérum T.E.W.L.

Sérum T.E.W.L.

This super rich serum will lock in moisture. Its composition of mink fat to relipidate, barbary fig extract, jojoba and sesame oil to protect, and raspberry seed and cranberry seed oil to revitalise and replenish the skin’s surface will provide immediate comfort and protection.

Emollients are a softener and smoother for the skin. The lipids are used to improve the appearance and texture of skin by filling in the cracks and crevices between skin cells called corneocytes. This improves the overall skin appearance and make it more flexible. They also contribute to the creamy texture of a moisturiser. They are essential ingredients in products designed to soothe dry skin and are especially beneficial on conditions like eczema and psoriasis by smoothing ‘flaky’ skin cells. Some common emollients include essential fatty acids, which are found in various natural oils. Examples of these are: Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acids, Beeswax, Shea Butter, Oils such as Avocado, Jojoba, Coconut, and Macadamia. Oil-based emollients are heavier in texture so water-based emollients such as Aloe Vera are more suitable for normal to oily skins.

Ideal for dehydrated, lipid-deficient and/or mature Skin Instants® (oil-based) or normal to oily Skin Instants® (water-based).

Emulsion Originelle Régénérante

An intensive moisturising emulsion enriched in lipid-restoring active ingredients. Its high content of Vitamin E. will restore your natural protective barrier to offset the drying effects of extreme climatic conditions during the day and regenerate at night. This emulsion contains colostrum, hyaluronic acid and macadamia oil to restore the deficient hydrolipidic film, which consists of water (hydro) and fat (lipos), and leave your skin extra smooth. A genuine moment of comfort, thanks to the soothing mimosa extract, for those occasionally suffering from tightness and sensitivity.

Rejuvenators are intended to replenish essential proteins in the skin. Collagen, keratin, and elastin are skin proteins that are often found in rejuvenators. They can have a role similar to emollients and improve skin appearance by creating a film that aesthetically smooths the skin and stretches out and fills in fine lines.

Ideal for mature Skin Instants®.

Working to rejuvenate, firm and plump the epidermis, this marine-inspired moisturiser will create a barrier to protect the skin against external aggressions and repair even the most delicate mature Skin Instants®.

Ceramides are not a class of moisturiser but these lipid molecules have been increasingly used in recent years in the treatment of atopic skin and in cosmeceuticals. Ceramides are an essential component of normal stratum corneum and function to help maintain the integrity of the skin barrier. The insufficiency of ceramides in the stratum corneum is an important factor in atopic dry skin. Subsequently, ceramides have been added to many moisturisers used in the treatment of both atopic and normal skin.

 Ideal for damaged Skin Instants®.

Crème Masque Vernix

This intensive cream mask helps recondition and strengthen the epidermis by offering it a “second birth”. Inspired by the first epidermal protection at birth, the formulation of this cream mask virtually reproduces the original composition of the vernix, thanks to a selection of active ingredients rich in lipids, proteins and antioxidant peptides. Vernix, a sebaceous waxy substance, has powerful healing properties, balances the skin’s pH and inhibits the growth of bacteria for a multi-pronged approach to skin replenishment. It revitalises, repairs and protects deficient and/or stressed Skin Instants® from external aggressions.
